I am an accountant but not a cpa. I am out of job for the last 1 year. Now I am planning to change my career. I have two plans. Plan A is to do associate degree in nursing. Plan B is to get an associate in IT(networking). Which is the best decision. I would appreciate your valuable advise.
After Sarban Oxley, there were a lot of accountant lost their job. First of all you should make sure changing job is what you really want and not because you can’t find a job. Keep in mind that you must at least enjoy what you do for living, otherwise, you will be miserable which is not good for you or people close to you. Why not consider building a career using your accounting training? I think there will be a lot of demand on "baby boomer" related business, like medical administrator, assistant living manager, or other business management job. With solid accounting training, it is easier to learn management side of the job.
Compare Nursing and IT field, nursing probably has more demand in the foreseeable future, although the over supply is happening in some cities. IT particularly networking area has too many people fighting for a shrinking field.

I graduated from college with my BSc in Finance and Accounting over 8 years ago, I have a Masters in Finance through DeVry and I have taken the first 2 CFA exams and also the CPA exam and passed them all. I want to venture into the Asset Management field at any investment bank, but I can’t because they aren’t hiring, and I don’t have any connections or anyone to network with who works in Asset Management.
After talking to some guys, they say the best thing to do, is to go to school full time at a top 20 MBA school and then intern with an investment bank and that’s the best way to get in.
I am 32 years old and I work as a Senior Financial Analyst at a Fortune 100 company. Do you think this option of going back to school is good?
Hi Daks,
It’s great to hear your success since graduating from DeVry University.
With your thoughts on networking within the Asset Management field, we would recommend that you join our LinkedIn Alumni group to network and communicate with fellow graduates and faculty.
Definitely let us know how your experience is within the alumni group and if you have any other questions.

I do not have friends and never had any friends other than my brothers and cousins. One time about 10 years ago I bowled with co-workers after work and enjoyed it but thought that it wasn’t the best use of my time.
Currently I only socialize with those with whom I work as well as with family members during the holidays. I have many disagreements with my brothers so I would not say that they make the best friends.
I always figured that once I became a CPA and got with a good firm I would be able to get into a network of other professionally minded people. I’m only 28 and am not necessarily looking for friends now but once my career is in full force I would like to have at least a hand full of regular friends.
Are professional organizations the best places to find friends?
Also, I am a Catholic and am considering joining the Knights of Columbus in a few years when I may have a little more time for leisure.
Friendships are based on similar interests and attitudes. In order to make friends, you must be in places where you will find a lot of people who like the things you like, are interested in the things you are interested in, and do the things you like to do. That means seeking out the organizations, clubs, meetings, or whatever first, then attending regularly, getting to know the other people in the group, and making yourself available outside of group activities. Once you know a few of the people, go out with them for lunch, invite them over to your home, and otherwise socialize with them. Friendships can be "built," but you have to start with the right raw material, and you have to put in the effort.

Hey Everyone!
Due to the market climate I looking to use my MBA in Accountancy to make a Career Switch into Public Accounting. I will be CPA eligible by July 2010. My prior work experience is in Real Estate. However, I have done accounts payable, construction accounting and financial analysis.
My career goal is to work for a small to mid size CPA firm in the Chicago area. I would even consider a sole practitioner’s office if I can get good experience and a shot at a full-time position.
I need advice as to how I can obtain an internship (volunteer or paid) or an entry level position? I am graduating by May of 2010.
Any help or networking / leads are appreciated! Thanks!
Sincerely,
AJ

Where are all the accounting jobs? I went back to college to get the degree and all I can find are jobs that don’t want to pay more than 22,000 per year. I am older (almost 40) and employers once they see how old I am almost run out of the room screaming because they don’t want an older person. Any ideas? Please don’t tell me to network or post my resume online, because I have done both and neither one has helped. I am starting my MBA classes in September with the goal of CPA (Ohio) but I am getting frustrated with the whole thing. Let me know. Thanks

For example, in the book, "The New Professionals" – The Rise of Network Marketing as the New Profession, See Amazon.com link here: http://www.amazon.com/New-Professionals-Network-Marketing-Profession/dp/0761519661
This book was written by a Harvard Economics Professor. Not an MLM distributor. Also, why does Robert Kyosaki, self made multi millionaire support MLM even though he is not involved with MLM?
So, answer the question as to why there are professionals such as CEO’s, surgeons, attorneys, CPA’s etc… leaving their regular jobs because of the success with the MLM company they’ve achieved?
My answer is time freedom. They didn’t want to be owned by their job… what’s your answer?
Don’t say that most people at the top make all the money and you have to get in at the beginning because my 12,000 dollars proves this to be a bunch of horse pucky.
I deleted the first question because it was not asked the way it sounded… I meant why so many professionals who are already six figure earners would choose Network Marketing as their vehicle of choice?
Also, I’d like to add that there is no infinite depth in pay to keep it going forever… so, it’s not a scheme. There is a cap on the depth in pay. Just no cap on how many income centers you can choose to open and grow.
More and more people around 40s and above are out of job/unemployed due to retrenchment or otherwise. It would be difficult for this group of people to find another job or to start all over again. What better way to earn a living and survive than starting a small business with MLM? Have a Merry Christmas!

Is it thru CPM (cost per impression), CPC/CPA (cost per click/action), affiliate marketing?
No there is no other way.
Sites like Myspace and Friendster are based on ads.
I don’t even think they use click based ads
They get raw money, like thousands from that.
